MIND OVER MADI

Biography

I think I carried a pencil with me out of the womb, because I've been writing for as long as I can remember. When I was about 20 years old, I submitted some greeting card copy to Blue Mountain Arts. They accepted a couple of my pieces for option and eventually they purchased three of my cards. I also sold three pieces to DaySpring, the Christian division of Hallmark.

After laying my writing aside for a few years when my kid were young, the passion reignited and God has opened amazing doors for me.

One of those doors was for me to work from home as a  freelance writer as I pursued my dream of becoming a published novelist. In addition to greeting cards, I have had my work published in magazines (Mature Living, Christian Home & School), ezines, and anthologies. I work behind the scenes for FaithWriters.com, am a regular book reviewer for FaithfulReader.com, and am the Grand Rapids Christian Fiction Examiner and the National Christian Writing Examiner for Examiner.com.

But while freelancing pays the bills, my passion is fiction. Because my love for reading and writing has never let up, I know it's a desire God has placed in my heart. Over the past few years, I have been honored to  final in several national contests, including the ACFW Genesis  contest  (2008, 2009, 2010, and semi-finalist in 2011), the RWA Get Your Stiletto in the Door  contest (2007), The Phoenix Rattler - does your story have bite? contest (2009) and I took home the grand prize in the 2009 FaithWriters  Page Turner contest for the first chapter of my half-finished novel, Dead Weight.

In January, 2010, I signed with Terry Burns of Hartline Literary Agency. In June, 2011, I received a contract from Oak Tara Publishers for my debut novel, Mind over Madi, an inspirational Women's Fiction with elements of humor. This novel is now available through Amazon.com (Mind Over Madi)  and other online bookstores, as well as in various bookstores across the country.

In August, 2010, I kicked my fear of public speaking in the teeth when I taught two workshops at the FaithWriters conference. I taught another workshop in 2011 and am shocked to find I actually like this public speaking thing!

On a personal note, I have been married to my husband Rob for over 23 years and have two teenagers, Zach and Lyndsey, who keep me young and provide lots of material for my writing (especially humor!).

I love to connect with readers, so please don't hesitate to send me a note, via the Contact Page.

Happy reading!
